Anyone who believes in God genuinely seeks salvation and commits their heart to their faith. The dedication and zeal shown in attending weekly services and keeping religious holidays are undeniably earnest. However, the standard of salvation set forth in the Bible is unmistakable: zeal without the true knowledge of God cannot lead to salvation.
Reflecting on the Failure of Cain
In Genesis 4, Cain brought the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord through his hard work and sweat. It certainly was not lacking in sincerity or effort. Yet, God looked with favor only on Abel and his offering, while rejecting Cain's.
The decisive difference lay in whether the sacrifice aligned with God's word and covenant. Abel understood God's will and offered a better sacrifice through faith and obedience (Hebrews 11:4). Cain, on the other hand, brought an offering based entirely on his own thoughts and methods.
Today, we must examine whether the worship days and holidays kept out of custom truly align with the testimony of Scripture:
We Must Worship What We Know
Jesus clearly defined the standard of true worship during His conversation with the Samaritan woman:
Worship holds true value only when we know the God we worship and follow the regulations He has established. The moment God's commandments are replaced by human doctrines, all devotion becomes meaningless.
The Sabbath of the New Covenant, the Passover, and the seven feasts in three times are clear truths testified in Scripture. It is time to set aside conventional traditions and return to the Bible. Examine through the Scriptures whether your worship is true worship offered in knowledge like Abel's, or vain zeal offered without understanding like Cain's.

However, the standard of salvation set forth in the Bible is unmistakable: zeal without the true knowledge of God cannot lead to salvation.
"For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness."
— Romans 10:2–3
Reflecting on the Failure of Cain
In Genesis 4, Cain brought the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord through his hard work and sweat. It certainly was not lacking in sincerity or effort. Yet, God looked with favor only on Abel and his offering, while rejecting Cain's.
"In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord. And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor."
— Genesis 4:3–5
The decisive difference lay in whether the sacrifice aligned with God's word and covenant. Abel understood God's will and offered a better sacrifice through faith and obedience (Hebrews 11:4). Cain, on the other hand, brought an offering based entirely on his own thoughts and methods.
Today, we must examine whether the worship days and holidays kept out of custom truly align with the testimony of Scripture:
- The Seventh-day Sabbath (Saturday) vs. Sunday Worship
"Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy... but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God."
— Exodus 20:8–10
"He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read."
— Luke 4:16
- The Passover of the New Covenant vs. Christmas (December 25th)
"I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll."
—Deuteronomy 4:2
"Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you."
—Revelation 22:18–19
If we follow human traditions rather than God's divine commandments, our devotion risks becoming an unaccepted offering like Cain's, rather than an acceptable sacrifice like Abel's.
We Must Worship What We Know
Jesus clearly defined the standard of true worship during His conversation with the Samaritan woman:
"You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews."
— John 4:22
Worship holds true value only when we know the God we worship and follow the regulations He has established. The moment God's commandments are replaced by human doctrines, all devotion becomes meaningless.
"They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules."
— Matthew 15:9

Examine through the Scriptures whether your worship is true worship offered in knowledge like Abel's, or vain zeal offered without understanding like Cain's.

Cain’s offering and Abel’s offering teach us what true obedience to God is.
Cain may have thought that God would be pleased if he offered grain that was clean and prepared with great sincerity in the eyes of men. However, God’s thoughts were not the same. As the Bible says, “To obey is better than sacrifice.” Doing exactly as God has commanded is what pleases God and makes our offering acceptable to Him.
We must not allow our own thoughts to go against God’s will. We should remember that God accepted Abel’s offering because Abel followed God’s will and offered a sacrifice involving the shedding of blood, as God had instructed. On the other hand, God did not accept the offering that was given according to human thoughts.
Likewise, today, worship practices created according to human ideas, such as Sunday worship and Christmas, are not the worship God established. We need to realize that abandoning the Sabbath and the Passover, which God established, and instead keeping Sunday, Christmas, and other human commandments is the same as Cain’s offering—discarding the sacrifice God instructed us to give and worshiping according to our own thoughts.
Therefore, we should understand this lesson clearly and keep God’s commandments as He has instructed us.
