We often think of God as only one being, but when we carefully examine the Bible, we can discover a profound mystery about God. One example is the name “Elohim.” Why does the Bible refer to God as “Elohim,” a plural form? And why did God say “we” rather than “I” when creating mankind?
Genesis 1:26 says, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness.” When God created mankind, He referred to Himself as “us.” Then verse 27 says, “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” If mankind was created in God’s image, and mankind consists of male and female, this shows that God’s image includes both a male image and a female image.
Therefore, if we call the God of the male image “God the Father,” the God of the female image can be understood as “God the Mother,” or Heavenly Mother. Furthermore, Galatians 4:26 says, “But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother.”
Through these verses, the Bible teaches us that God is not only revealed as our Father but also as our Mother, who gives us life.
By examining the name “Elohim,” God’s use of the word “we,” and the fact that mankind was created as male and female in God’s image, we can understand that the Bible reveals more than just one image of God. The Bible testifies to both God the Father and Heavenly Mother. Therefore, shouldn’t we recognize and accept Heavenly Mother, whom the Bible testifies about? I hope that through the words of the Bible, we can fully understand God the Father and Heavenly Mother and become God’s children who receive the blessing of eternal life.
